Cookie policy
Last updated 22 September 2026
This policy explains the cookies and similar technology used on plakton.co.za, what they do, and how you can control them. It forms part of our Privacy policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Similar technology, such as your browser's local storage, works in the same way. They let a site remember things between pages and visits, like what is in your cart.
Your choices
When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept all cookies, keep to essential cookies only, or choose which kinds you allow. You can change your mind at any time with the cookie button in the bottom corner of every page. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings, although the cart and checkout will not work without essential cookies.
Essential
These keep the site working and secure. They are always on.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| cart, cart_sig, cart_ts | Shopify | Remember what is in your cart | Up to 2 weeks |
| secure_customer_sig | Shopify | Keep you signed in to your account | Up to 1 year |
| localization | Shopify | Remember your country and currency | Up to 2 weeks |
| _tracking_consent | Shopify | Remember your cookie choices | Up to 1 year |
| keep_alive, _secure_session_id and checkout cookies | Shopify | Keep your session and checkout working | Session to a few weeks |
| __cf_bm, _cfuvid | Cloudflare | Tell people from bots and protect the site from attacks | 30 minutes, session |
| hCaptcha cookies | hCaptcha | Protect our forms from spam and bots | Short lived |
Preferences
These remember choices you make on the site. We store them in your browser's local storage, not in cookies, and they never leave your device.

| plakton_wishlist_v1 | The styles you save to your wishlist | Until you clear them |
| plakton_compare_v1 | The styles you add to compare | Until you clear them |

| plakton_promo_seen | That you have already seen our newsletter offer, so it does not show again | Until you clear them |
| plakton_region_v1 | Whether you chose to stay on the South African site | Until you clear them |
Analytics
These help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. They only run if you allow analytics.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Count visits and see which pages are used | Up to 2 years |
| _shopify_y, _shopify_s | Shopify | Store analytics, such as how visitors move through the shop | 1 year, 30 minutes |
| _landing_page, _orig_referrer | Shopify | Record how you arrived at the site | Up to 2 weeks |
Marketing
We do not currently use advertising cookies. If we add any, they will only run if you allow marketing cookies, and we will list them here.
Chat and payments
Our live chat, Shopify Inbox, stores the conversation in your browser so it continues from page to page. When you pay, PayFast, Payflex or Happy Pay may set their own cookies on their payment pages, under their own policies.
